Hey there! On the 23rd of August, Caro, Andres, Andrianos and I are throwing our very first charity cocktail night at Casita Blumenfeldstrasse, raising money for Helen Keller International :)
I'm here for the summer on an internship, subletting Ricardo's room while he's away, and he, Caro, Andres and Andrianos have welcomed me into the house like I've lived here for years. Together, we're running this cocktail night for everyone to enjoy.
Think black tie, dapper suits, beautiful gowns, your chance to go all out. The drinks will be flowing, the music will be going, and you'll have the night of your life while helping people in the process.
Helen Keller International's Vitamin A supplementation programme is the best way I know to save a life. Here in Switzerland, vitamin A is everywhere in the food we eat, so we don't think much about it. But for many families around the world, foods rich in vitamin A are either not available, or more often, too expensive. Without it, children's immune systems weaken and their risk of dying from common illnesses rises hugely. Vitamin A supplementation cuts childhood mortality by 4-12%, and costs under 2 CHF per child per year.
So here's the question: how much would you pay to cut your own risk of death by 4-12%? Or a child's, if you had one? We can spend our entire lives, pouring thousands upon thousands into it, and never buy ourselves that kind of improvement. But to give it to someone else? That costs about ten drinks. Over a night, we can help a lot more than ten.
Our goal: 300 CHF. All donations go straight to the programme via the link on this page, and there'll be a QR code at the venue too, so you can give right from your phone between cocktails.
Finally, don't worry if you don't drink, I make my own speciality tea blends in the UK, and I'm working on a quality mocktail just for this occasion ;)
